Primary school provides a foundation for a child’s emotional, social, and personal growth and development. During these years, learners become proficient readers. They build their core understanding of mathematics and science, and grow in their knowledge of the larger world.

During this critical period, it is essential that primary learners continue to be encouraged in their curiosity and inquisitiveness. Vega Primary school is a place where learners enjoy and have a positive attitude towards learning.

Primary learners become self-aware and self-confident through our program. They have opportunities to collaborate with others in solving problems. This gives them insights into both their own strengths as well as the strengths of others. Peer learning is a powerful tool for individual growth and has long-term benefits for social development. As they puzzle through solutions, they benefit from and learn to appreciate the way others think and approach problems. Our primary school is truly a training ground for critical thinking and collaboration.

At Vega’s primary school, we acknowledge and encourage each individual learner’s strengths and interests. Learners are guided through self-reflection to identify their areas of strength and areas needing growth. We partner with learners and parents to help each learner know themselves and their life goals based on their interests. Student-Led Conferences provide a platform for learners to speak publicly about their experience in primary school, including their self-reflections and goals.

The primary school curriculum is developed locally based on the best sources available from national and international educational institutions. Our inclusion in the Global Schools Alliance allows for cross-cultural collaborative experiences for both our primary learners and our learning leaders. Fundamentally, the primary school is aligned with CBSE standards. We go beyond those standards which we see as starting points for our instruction.

Subjects are provided in an interdisciplinary manner in the primary school. Learners take on extensive projects on these kinds of topics and apply research skills and existing knowledge to identify what they need to know in search of solutions. This leads them to increased understanding of math, science, social studies and more. The end product of these projects incorporates multiple skills which often include music, art and drama to express their solutions.

At Vega, we provide a learning environment for children which is both fun and immersive and helps them to explore. Our focus on the whole child and their individuality helps Vega Schools to be rated as one of the best primary schools in Gurgaon.

Grade 1

Shapes are Everywhere

Primary school learners learned that shapes are all around us in nature and in man-made spaces. It helped them understand how, if they looked closely, they could see shapes everywhere in their immediate surroundings. They also gained an understanding of 2D and 3D shapes and the role of tessellations and symmetry in art and architecture. Integrating an element of our primary school’s social action initiative, ‘Shram’, this project helped them to understand the importance of being organised, responsible and keeping their spaces clean. Learners made their own cloth masks, and first-aid boxes. They developed an understanding of the importance of shapes, and symmetry when creating or designing art work or structures and the need to use this knowledge for the betterment of community. Learners were able to empathise with the less fortunate in their communities and create useful products such as masks and first aid kits for them, which they donated to them.

Life and Environment

Primary school learners were encouraged to consider how the quality of the environment we live in has a direct impact on our health and well-being. They explored how the increase in pollution has contaminated the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the soil in which we grow our food. It became clear to them that they themselves should take steps, however small, to preserve and improve their environment. Learners had sessions with experts who inspired them to learn more about problems we face due to pollution and explore solutions that could help improve this. Learners collected the AQI levels of different States, plotted the graphs and observed the difference in the air quality. They also learned about the need for recycling plastic and reducing waste. They went on to create recycled paper bags, did plantation drives in their own societies, created checklists to maintain cleanliness at home and made their own flora and fauna flipbooks. This helped Learners develop an understanding of the importance of a pollution-free environment for the survival of all living things. They were also able to understand that one is never too young to become a changemaker and save the Earth.
