Numeracy

Nursery learners are exposed to the math that exists around them in the real world. Numeracy skills are intended to help them make sense of and quantify the world around them. These skills are incorporated seamlessly into other subject areas like music, art and dance.

Literacy

Our nursery learners are encouraged to gain the ability to read and write their own names. Their fine motor skills are developed as they begin pre-writing and pre-reading activities.

My World

Our project-based approach attempts to tie in various skills and knowledge to be acquired by learners, into a coherent whole, organized around a specific theme, such as myself, plants, animals, fruits, vegetables, transport, traffic rules, etc. A deliberate focus on project learning objectives enables nursery children to be more efficient in acquiring skills and processes required to gather information later in life.

Some Nursery Class Problem Based Learning ( PBL) -Projects Examples

I am Special

Nursery learners were encouraged to probe and discover more about the world and their place in it. The aim was to help our young learners to introspect, and to learn about their body parts and functions at a deeper level. They learned about the five senses which developed their understanding of their own sensorial needs. This led to a study of good hygiene and proper hygiene habits. They also related the senses to sound and explored sounds using sensory play such as crushing paper and dried leaves, jingling coins and beads, banging spoons, ringing bells, and shaking bottles filled with beads. They made 3D caricature dolls that showcased body parts and physical features of humans and created their own sensory touch mat using wool, pom poms, rice, sugar, sand and different textured sheets. Learners also created craft houses representing their family and family members in them. This project helped learners delve deep and gain a better sense of self, build their confidence, explore their senses and arrive at the understanding that everyone is unique and that we must respect and appreciate our own, as well as each other’s differences.

Let it Grow

Learners were provided with various opportunities to connect directly with nature both at the nursery school and at home. It helped them to differentiate between how plants and insects co-exist (interdependence). They also learned about the physical features of plants and insects and researched on how insects, humans and plants depend on each other for survival. They were encouraged to take a nature walk with their parents during monsoon season so as to appreciate the beauty of nature, its impact and witness different creatures that ‘crawl out’ of their homes during the rains. Our little learners created organic compost using fruit and vegetable peels, replicated the life cycle of a butterfly through a visual art activity and reused plastic bottles to grow plants and recorded their growth process. During this project, learners developed a deep connection with nature, understood how it provides for us and realised the value of living creatures (especially insects) and how they help in the overall balance of life.

My Journey

Nursery learners explore different modes of transport. They compared different vehicles and their uses. They also learned to reason out which mode of transport would be preferable for a particular journey, the significance of traffic rules and the concept of traffic lights and road safety. While exploring the world around them, learners understood the importance of community. They realised that they too were a part of the community and that they must help the people around them. Learners were introduced to community professionals like policemen, fire-fighters, doctors, guards and teachers and explored the tools they use to help others. It encouraged them to start thinking about what they would want to become when they got older. They made toy vehicles out of waste materials, traffic signages, created their own ‘Safety Rules’ books and a traffic light craft. It enabled learners to connect the concepts of transport, road safety, traffic rules to their day to day life. They were also able to understand, at a deeper level, the vital role and contribution made by community professionals.

Once you have completed the preliminary formalities, you can schedule a visit to the campus. Here you can interact with the head of admissions, head of school, and school teachers to get direct insights about any further formalities.

This is also a good opportunity for the child to visit the school and get familiarized with the campus and their educators. This can be incredibly helpful as it would allow them to feel more comfortable on their first day.

So, these were some of the most important steps that parents need to keep in mind before starting their child’s nursery admissions process. By following these steps, parents can ensure that they don’t miss out on anything and get their child admitted into the school of their choice. But before you even begin the process of nursery admissions, it’s essential to prepare your child for this transformative journey mentally.

As nursery school is often a child’s first step into the outside world and the first time they spend any considerable amount of time away from their primary caregivers, it’s important to ensure that they are prepared. This is why parents must have candid conversations with the child and allow them to speak about their views on this change.
