I once asked my 16-year-old daughter, who was about to appear for her board exam, what she believed to be the most important factor in achieving success in life. She, being a little reticent girl, just said  “confidence”.

As educators, we all are aware that, setting aside confidence, if there is any other quality that sees one through life, that will be the “Hard work”. Focus and hard work in the right direction are the next aspects that determine the rate of success in one’s life. Vega Schools recognize the importance of honing these skills among her students in formative years. How is hard work taught to young students? At a tender age of 16-18 hard work boils down to putting more rigour in studies. Making small targets and working hard towards achieving those targets puts the perspective of hard work in place at that age.The board exam preparation for grade 10 and grade 12 students play a pivotal role in students’ life in these two years. The rigour developed in the course of preparation, the experience of appearing in national level examination create the resilience and appetite for achievements among these students.

solving past papers

In Vega schools we have managed to produce excellent board results for the last few years.Alongside the unique pedagogical practices, we at Vega schools have also been working exceptionally hard with our students to prepare them for their upcoming board exams. There are many strategies for navigating through the vast curriculum of board exams. Regular revision of syllabus in shorter chunks, mindmapping, problem solving etc are parts and parcels of the regimen. Solving past year question papers play a huge role in exam preparation.

Apart from the exam readiness, the solving of board papers offer the following advantages among young learners.

  • Past papers offer a plethora of probable questions for the practice. Hence students get a fair idea about the types of questions well in advance.
  • Students also get familiar with patterns, sections and subsections of the question papers.
  • Often the concepts get cleared only when diverse questions are attempted on those. It enables students to develop a better understanding and clarity on various concepts.
  • Students get more confidence when they practise questions in a time-bound way.
  • Through solving board papers, one learns to present her/his answers in a more concise and clear manner. This enhances the learning process.
  • The progress and growth of a student can also be monitored with the continuous improvements achieved through solutions of past papers.
  • Last but not the least, getting better scores on the board exam is the primary goal of solving board papers. If the practice is carried out with genuine dedication and honesty, it undoubtedly helps students relieve stress and improve their scores on their most important school leaving examinations.

All stakeholders in an educational institution – students, teachers, parents, and management, share one common goal: academic and co-curricular excellence of her students. The path to achieve academic as well as co curricular success may seem arduous, but with conscious, careful and time bound engagement of students it is possible to lead them towards it. Academic excellence not only paves a smoother path of successful career but also boosts one’s confidence which is a treasure of a lifetime.
