A 17-year-old boy from an influential family ran over and killed a man with his Mercedes. His parents initially denied his involvement, shielding him due to his minor status. Further investigations revealed he was a repeat traffic offender, enabled by his parents\u2019 leniency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Similarly, in a notorious murder case at a well- known school, the parents of the accused 16-year-old boy defended him, despite evidence of guilt. Their refusal to accept his actions delayed justice for the victim’s family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This denial, while coming from a place of love, can have unintended consequences.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As educators, we witness children at their best and their most challenging moments. Yet, one of the hardest aspects of our role is addressing concerning behaviours with parents who refuse to believe their child could be in the wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When parents dismiss feedback with statements like, \u201cHow dare you say this about my child?\u201d or \u201cIt\u2019s impossible for my child to do this!\u201d It fosters a mindset in children where<\/p>\n\n\n\n

they believe they can escape consequences. Instead, let\u2019s ask, \u201cHow can we address this together?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Schools and parents share a mission: nurturing kind, capable, and responsible individuals. Trust us to be on the same team. Let\u2019s work hand in hand to ensure children take accountability and grow into their best selves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
