Vega Schools is ecstatic to celebrate and honour the international chess phenomenon – Divya Deshmukh. She is now crowned as the World\u2019s best women’s chess player after her win at the FIDE women World Cup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An Ascent to the Global Scene from Nagpur<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 19-year-old Divya Deshmukh, born in December 2005 in Nagpur to a family of doctors, juggled her studies at Bhavans Bhagwandas Purohit Vidya Mandir with an early interest in chess. Before her breakout performance in Georgia, Divya was already a well-established talent, having won several championships, including Asian Women’s Champion, World U-20 Girls Champion (2024), and Olympiad gold medals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the 19-year-old Divya being half as old as the seasoned Humpy\u2014India’s first female grandmaster\u2014the final match between the two was a battle of generations. The fact that two Indians advanced to the final out of 107 players showed that, similar to the open division, where players like Gukesh and Praggnanandhaa have begun to make their presence known, India could lead women’s chess shortly following decades of Chinese and Russian grandmaster dominance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A New Chapter in Indian Women’s Chess History<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her triumph was widely praised, not just by chess fans but also by renowned figures such as Viswanathan Anand, who referred to it as a \u201ccelebration of Indian chess,\u201d and the Polgar sisters, who celebrated India’s newfound strength on the international chess scene. Divya is now unquestionably in the forefront of an exceptional generation of Indian chess talent thanks to this victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
